Preparation for Immigration
Getting ready before you move to Canada
Table of Contents
Introduction
One of the first questions we are faced with when our immigration plans are finalized, is “What do I need to do?“. Since immigration is a once-in-a-lifetime event for many people, it is natural to feel a lack of information and clarity along the way. This lack of familiarity can increase the anxiety and stress caused by facing the unknown.
The goal of this section is to ease those concerns. The following information has been gathered based on the experiences of thousands of immigrants before you and can serve as a helpful guide for your preparation:
Power of Attorney
It is strongly recommended that before leaving Iran, you grant full power of attorney to a trusted individual. This will allow you to manage any necessary legal, financial, or administrative tasks in Iran without having to return.
Note: It is possible to issue a power of attorney from within Canada (through the Interests Section of Iran in Washington, D.C.), but the process is more expensive and time-consuming.
Your LinkedIn Profile
If you intend to work in your professional field in Canada, having an updated LinkedIn profile is very important. We recommend:
- Creating or updating your LinkedIn profile before your immigration.
- Connecting with individuals who are working in your area of expertise in Canada.
Note: After arriving in Canada, you may need to further update your profile to match the local job market. Starting this process before immigration will make your job search smoother and faster.
Conversational English
No skill is as crucial for success in daily life and job hunting in Canada as fluency in conversational English. It is highly recommended that you:
- Dedicate a part of your daily schedule to practicing English conversation.
- Focus on learning commonly used vocabulary and phrases for professional and social settings.
Having strong conversational skills plays a vital role not only in everyday interactions but also in job interviews and career advancement.
Conclusion
Immigration is a major life transition that can feel overwhelming at times, but with thoughtful preparation, the journey can become much smoother. By organizing your legal and professional affairs, strengthening your language skills, and learning from the experiences of others, you set a strong foundation for success. Every small step you take today will help you face the new environment with greater confidence, resilience, and optimism.
We hope these guidelines make your preparation process clearer and help you start your new life with peace of mind.
